skoda door won't open

Help people! The in laws have a 51 reg fabia. Something has failed in the driver door and it can't be opened from inside or out. Their local garage is stuck as he can't fix it without removing the door panel. You can't remote the door panel without opening the door?!

What now? Ideally don't want to butcher the door card.
