Hi guys I was supplied some "3000" discs about 3 months ago which damaged two cars paint work im getting no wear with my supplier so am going to go down the legal route.

Does anyone know where I can get the discs p rated as they're clearly not 3000 more like 1000 grit

cheers

Supplier and manufactuer one and the same? If not what about speaking with the manufactuer or contacting another brand?

"P" Rating various from brand to brand and are not always the same. 3M's 1000 does and will vary to different brands in terms of harshness or cut. Nortons 400 is pretty similar in terms of cut to Mirka 320. I would happily paint over Mirka gold 400 on a da but wouldnt dream of it on norton discs. Hence why it is better to stick to one brand for a certain type of sanding, for example we stick to mirka for prepping but 3M for polishing. I think you will be extremely lucky to get any where going "the legal route" to be honest as there is no "P" rating that the manufacturers stick to they only have their own to differentiate between them.

Yes the P rating does seem to have a lot of variables between suppliers, 3M and Mirka are the best when it comes to having a refined cut, the cheaper the disc the harsher it seems in my experience, there is a big difference in cost too. For me the time saved in prepping is worth the extra money of the better quality discs.
