Thoughts on this bit of rust please

My newly acquired 530i. It's pretty much the only rust on it. What sort of figure do you think I'll be looking at for a fix? I'm not sure if it's just surface or not.

A proper job would be to remove the rust (almost certainly leaving a hole), repairing the hole, and re-spraying the entire rear quarter, blend to adjacent panels. I'll open the bidding at £425.

Thanks, I was told about £300ish.. seems about right.

Good good. Re-assuringly expensive then. You won't get away with a half decent job on a silver car, it'll have to be top notch. Usually I reckon on £300/panel in prep and paint and I added a little to account for bumper, filler cap cover removal and the rust hole repair. Hopefully they can bring it in cheaper.

Thank you. She's a lovely car and I aim to keep her for 3-4 years at least. I won't be doing too many miles as from April I'm full time in the Royal Navy. I'll get this sorted in the next few weeks.

Simular situation myself, I reckon my E34 touring is a keeper and I'm currently considering a full re-spray... Rust is minimal but after 17 years the paint looks a bit tired. It's finished in rare 'Techno Violet' so it'd be nice to have it back to factory finish or better!

Sounds nice. Compared to other E39's this rust is minimal!
