I live in a very hard water area, so I've been considering the above for a little while. I'm currently at Goodwood and there's a place selling the 30ppm version for 58 quid. Internet is positively glacial down here, so I'm not able to easily research. Is this a good buy, or would I be better off saving my cash? Water marks are a right pain...

Don't those little filters have a very short lifespan?

Cheers guys, didn't get it in the end, as I can live without it. They apparently last around 25 washes, so just over £2 a go.

Have a read up on DI resin vessels - also used by window cleaners.

This system came into being when I replaced the water softener in my house
http://www.morethanpolish.com/maxi-filter-refillab...

The guy who put in the new softener was intrigued by the in-line softener I was using for the cars, but more importantly shocked by the price. He thought there was no way it should be so expensive and made me up a prototype device based on the cartridges he was supplying for houses. I'm still using the same one 2 years later (still working perfectly), rather than going through 2-3 of the big filters each year. Since I also know the guy who runs morethanpolish, I put them in touch and it seems to be a very popular product.
