Best way to clean rusty discs and wheel hub
Discussion
Hi everybody I have a aston Martin vantage and the discs are massive but look rusty and also the wheel hub looks a bit nasty saw a car detailed on another thread showed before and after with the discs and hub he used a product called gelagnite but can't find it anywhere can anybody suggest a product or a way to clean them thanks
If you are looking at rust around the centre boss of the disc you would be better off using something like Hammerite paint in black or silver (I prefer black) The Jenolite will just disolve the rust and leave the surface exposed for the rust to start again. If you are looking at rust around the outer rim (edge) of the disc there's not much you can do about that except to scrape off the heavy stuff with a screwdriver blade. If you are looking at rust on the main working surface of the disc you have a problem with the pads because there should not be rust there.
In actual fact rust on disc hub and the edge of the disc is quite easily dealt with as long as you bear in mind that the wheel's have to come off to give access !
What you do , after removing the wheel's , is clean the general area of grease and such like , maybe take the opportunity to clean and dress the wheel's and arch'e and then dry ( hairdryer )?. Take a small brush and apply Kurust ( available in Halfraud's )
A chemical reaction with the rust take's place turning it into a satin black finish that look's more like a factory finish than it would if painted .
I tend to redo mine every 6 month's .
Hope this help's
