So I had a go at tackling my bubbling rear arches today.

But what do I need to do next? I Had used Hammerite Satin in a rattle can with a view of spraying over it to match the bodywork, but read up on it and seems hammerite doesnt like being painted over. Do the stories of paint falling off apply to hammerite spray paint or just the hammered finish brush on stuff?

Will using a primer, halfords rattle can and laquor protect the surface adiquately or is there a specific product I need to use prior to painting?

I'm a complete novice when it comes to painting and probably should have found all this out before stripping the arches down.

To save posting another topic with a similar subject...its ninja post time!! Whats the best paint for my Land Cruiser chassis? I don't care about what it looks like...just something that will offer more protection, will painting it with Zinc Phosphate be enough? or is there anything better? I just plan on scrubbing it down with a wire brush then painting.

Hi
Grind out all of that filler that you put on it.
Get some Krust; ant-rust remedy. It does work, paint it over the rust and it will all go blue.
Then epoxy prime it before giving it 3 coats of paint and lacquer.

Take a look at bilt hambers products, far superior to kurust etc and they do specific chassis coatings too.

Another vote for Bilt Hamber - use Hydrate 80 to paint on and Dynax to seal. Lots of pictures for reference on my Shogun thread

To save you the bother, here's an example:

I had promised not to bore you with further pictures of paint drying but having spent two days lying on hard concrete under a two-tonne truck, I feel I’ve earned that small right. The previous painting done in the winter had fared fairly well but undoubtedly, applying it when the ambient temperature was barely zero meant that it did not cure properly and it needed to be done again. So I’ve taken the opportunity to have the Shogun on axle stands and give it a proper coating. I’m really hoping that this will do for a while. Here’s a couple of shots of before, after & product.

Ended up stripping it right back down and further than I did before, which was lucky, as found some filler and more rust. Got all the rust out with a drill powered wire brush.

For the hole I used E40 then smoothed it in with E38.

Then primer and gave that side a few coats today with the halfords stuff. Need a fair bit of wet sanding before laquer due to mild orange peel in certain contours.

Funny you should mention chassis, I just took delivery of some 3M Spray Shutz to seal the inner arches. Offer alot more protection for the underside than painting.
