The winter wheels went on today. They'd had two coats of Finish Kare 1000P High Temp Wax applied to them over the weekend before fitting.

This is my first time using this wax... do I need to be careful when cleaning them? i.e. should I avoid doing anything in particular?

Normal routine is pressure washer, bilberry (1:4), brush, pressure wash. I was thinking the bilberry or the brush could be avoided.

Obviously it might be that the bilberry and the brush aren't actually *needed* in the first place. That would be nice!

1-4 might well be too much for the FK1000P.

I'd try 1-8 or maybe even 1-10.

In my experience you'll only see maybe a months protection from the FK during the winter before you'll need to top it up.

Personally I use Gtechniq C5 on my wheels which lasts the whole winter. Just make sure they're spotless before you apply it. IPA wipedown is a good idea. Then warm the wheels up during and after application to help the bonding process

Thanks, Bodski.

I actually used C5 last year, on new wheels (while off the car), indoors, and with IPA prior to application. Must admit I wasn't blown away, hence trying something different this year. Perhaps I was stripping it with the Bilberry? Although it seemed that I still needed to use the Bilberry to keep them clean.

I'll see how I get on and thanks for the advice re dilution.

If you have protection on them the chances are you wont need to use any cleaner other than shampoo. Depends how dirty the wheels are.

Best plan is to use the weakest soloution possible.

Sounds like a good approach - I'll start with just shampoo.

Now I just need to get them dirty...

I only use shampoo on my wheels which have been protected, but to be honest most of the dirt comes off with the pressure washer anyway.
