Old fart here chaps(45)

A few years back I started using rain x, and, must admit, i'm impressed!
However, I have to apply quite often.
Anything better on the market?

I was the same as yourself (although a year or two older) & was happy with RainX but wondered if there was anything better & having had a detailing lesson with teh guy who does my cars he recommended & I've bought some Gtechiq glass sealant. Its not cheap but he swears by it so if its good enough for a pro its good enough for me. 15ml bottles are about £15 but you need the screen to be completely free of contaminants so clean it with an IPA cleaner, apply three coats of Gtechniq over itself (don't wipe it off between coats) then take it off with a decent microfibre cloth. There are videos online of it in use on a windscreen so maybe give it a go.

I love the Nanolex Products for Glass.
Glass Polish, Glass cleaner followed by Glass Ultra. Had it on my van since May 2013 and its still there!

Any other ideas for similar Hydrophobic screen coating to rain x other than what has been suggested.

I would like to try something on my kit car windscreen which has no wipers.

I like rain X but after some search find lots of SuperHydrophobic coatings but unsure if any good

Washing up liquid, seriously. Just rub it well in, sparingly and keep it well away from any metal parts (salt).

Before I had a house and a kid and a million and 1 other things to do I had the time to wash my cars at least twice a week. Anyway where im going with this is the windscreens on the cars used to bead better than any rain x stuff vids I seen. No need for wipers hardlys ever. Never knew what it was as used different washing stuff. Doesnt happen now.

Try Orchard Hydrophobe - very, very good. I never even use my wipers after layering this a few times.

I use AGlaze sealant, best described as 10x stronger than Rainx! Have used for many years now, and extremely happy. Must admit they are a client for the company I work for, however very impressed with their products on a big scale as well as car windows.

Duxback / Aquapel get my vote.

As with anything related to car cleaning/detailing - preparation is key.

Don't use Rain X, they sponsor fake road safety charity BRAKE.

Or they certainly used to - once is enough for me!

Cheers guys.
Do the more expensive ones last between washes?

A big vote for Gtechniq G1 - my kit car windscreen has been coated for 3 months and 5k miles and it's still working brilliantly.

Hardly ever have to use my wipers - driving on the motorway last week a big downpour started, everybody else had wipers on monsoon, mine weren't on.

Crystal clear too so no smearing issues.

Need to follow the instructions very carefully, and use their glass polish first as it reacts to bond with the glass and anything in the way reduces the strength of the bond.

It's very good! Had it on my daily for a couple of months now and still works very well. I hardly ever use my wipers.

Wolf's Glass Guard is decent. Better value than the G-Techniq stuff too.

I usually use RainX, but as it's a pain to apply when it's cold I thought I try ArmorAll Sheild

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ARMORALL-SHIELD-FOR-GLAS...

It's much easier to apply and it seems just as good as RainX
