I've just ordered a set of alloy wheels for a car I'm buying later this week. They're in need of a bit of TLC (don't worry, it was reflected in the price!). Only thing was, I bought the wheels without tyres, so will have to order a set then have them fitted.

So, I'd like a consensus of opinion as to which way round I should do things:

A - Spray the wheels first, then when the paint has hardened have the tyres fitted,

or,

B - Have the tyres fitted first, then mask them off and spray the wheels?

A - everytime, it's a better job and you can clean the sealing surface up and paint that to make the seal better smile

I'm just a little worried that the process of putting the tyres on is going to remove some of the paint.

How about have the tyres fitted. Break the bead seal, spray away then reinflate.

The tyre fitter should be able to set the machine so it doesn't make contact with the wheel face, I had my tyres fitted to freshly painted wheels without any issue.

I had my wheels powder coated and new tyres fitted and all was done within three days so they had no problem fitting them to newly finished wheels.
