Hi there. Not a usual frequenter of this part of PH, but looking for some help. I'm not a great washer and polisher of cars. Just looking for something practical that will help me keep my new (to me) car looking decent without a lot of work.

I've bought a Cayman (ex PGB demonstrator car, 4 months old / 2k miles only) in white. It is sitting in my garage clean and dry after being very very carefully and thoroughly hand washed using Meguiars NXT Generation car wash. This looked like the best of what I had on the shelf where I keep the car products.

I would now like to do what I can (with what I have on the same shelf...) to give it some sort of shiny protective coat. For someone who doesn't wash and polish very much I seem to have quite a stash of products. I think some of them were Xmas presents (I'm the family petrol head) and some I've bought randomly here and there. Anyway...I'm also well stocked with unused micro fibre cloths etc.

Products I have:

Meguiars NXT Generation Speed Detailer
Meguiars NXT Tech Wax 2.0
Meguiars Ultimate Quik Detailer
Meguiars Ultimate Quik Wax
Meguiars Gold Class Liquid Car Wax
ArmorAll Shield

What's my best bet here? I don't want to spend hours and hours doing this. Maybe an hour or so tops.

I'd be grateful for your thoughts. Thank you in advance.

Ian

Hi Ian. Congrats on your new car - a stunning looking beast! I have a Boxster Spyder in white which I have been giving tender loving care to for four years. It is not a daily driver so my situation may be different from yours. In fact it has never been washed in that time !! I dust it off after every trip with an anti static dust mop and then remove any marks with Autoglym Rapid Detailer. (I have no experience of meguiars products). Every 6 months or so I give it a good polish with Autoglym Super resin Polish and in between these polishes I give it a treatment with Autoglym Exhibition Wax (which I got from a valeting friend many years ago as it is not available retail) it is a polish which contains no abrasives whatsoever and is fine for my usage but would not last long on a daily driver I suspect. This trteatment has kept the "showroom shine" with no swirl marks whatsoever. Hope this helps but you may not have the time (or inclination) to spend as much time as myself (make allowances - I am retired!!)

Anyway good luck with the car. I am a long time Porsche owner having had 9 over the last twenty odd years and thoroughly enjoyed all of them.
