Can you get different types of window tint?

Looking at tinting the rear windows on my next car, which'll be an estate.

I had a vectra estate, and they were tinted from the fatory. In the back of the car, it was very dark, it was cold in summer, and the darkness made it cosy and I like this.

However, i've seen other estate cars with tinted rear windows, and it was just as light when sat on the inside as a car that wasnt tinted,. Although from the outside, the desired privacy was achieved.

Am I just imagining this, or can you get certain tints or type of tint which make the inside darker aswell?

Yep - ask about a "heavy" tint - I had it on the rear windows in a Jeep and it was great for keeping the inside of the car cool which was ideal with a dog in the boot. The aircon probably didn't have to work as hard but that's just a theory!

Doesnt that just relate to the outside though?

I think so buddy. The grade of tint selected determines the outside and inside look together; there's no way to decouple one from the other.

What I would say though is if coverage is extended to the front sides as well as the rear, that can make the rear even darker so maybe that's where the discrepancy lies ie. first car rear only tint, second rear and front making the rear appear darker
