Hi all,

Need few pointers on how to renovate my paintwork.

The car I want to shine up is my 993. It's a 1996 and has paintwork in generally good condition, no rust, dents or significant scratches/chips. But it hasn't been attended to properly in over 5-6 years. It's just been washed. It is therefore a little swirly, has a few hairline scratches here and there, has a few very minor patches of bird poo marks, and is generally in need of a shine up. It feels quite 'unpolished' to the touch.

I have a bodyshop so I'm used to spending hours polishing up panels with a rotary polisher plus G6 or various other 3M polishes and compounds, but I want to try my hand at a real good paintwork detail of my car, and am happy to buy some products to achieve this.

I intend to wash and clay bar the whole car first, and then use some decent tar remover before beginning the clean, polish and wax process.

So... Can anyone recommend some really good products I can try for:

1)Thoroughly cleaning the paintwork after the initial wash and clay bar.

2)Polishing it up and getting rid of the swirls and other minor marks.

3)A good but easy to use wax or sealant as a glossy final coat.

Any advice on good foam polishing pads for the machine?

Products that can be applied with a rotary are fine by me smile

Any tips on the whole process very welcome.

Thanks!

Well I don't mind spending around £100-200 or so.

I'm hoping a few good products and pads wouldn't be much more than that!

1 - After a wash, decon and clay the paint will be clean, ready to machine polish.

2 - If you have 3M polishes/pads these should do the job just fine, Koch Chemie & Scholl polishes/pads also very good if you feel the need to purchase new kit.

3 - 98% of the end result is in the prep (i.e the machining stages) so an easy to use, durable wax or sealant is all you require (despite x,y & z brands claiming to all offer the ultimate in gloss/shine etc etc) - a pot of Finish Kare 1000P will see you well.

Enjoy getting the old girl up to scratch.

Have a look at the kit AutoGlym now do.

Its more of a single step designed to get rid of the light (and maybe some of the deeper scratches) scratches and marring.

And the end result largely depends on amount of time put in.
