Hi guys, wondering if anyone knows what I could do with this. I'm a total noob when it comes to paintwork.

Theres a small patch on my rear bumper where the lacquer has gone cloudy, spent half an hour cloth polishing it which did absolutely nothing.
Heres a pic the day after.

It looks awful when it's been raining or headlights are shining on it. I fear it could have been caused from residue from an old car battery.

Should a good wet sanding sort it, or will it need more serious work?
Thanks chaps.

'Residue from an old battery'.
Do you mean you've spilled acid onto the surface & it's damaged the surface?

I can't be certain what has caused it. I discovered it after a week of not using the car. I've had a lot of parts in the boot, including a couple of old batteries.
I didn't notice any leaks at the time, but I can't think of what else would have done something like that.
