I am asking this from a paint protection point of view rather than cosmetic.

If I were to use a wash & wax product on a regular basis (i.e. every time I wash my car), do I still need to wax the car with a paste wax to achieve paint protection?

I have good results using a spray quick detailer at the drying stage.

Depending on the type of contamination your paint is subject to QD on good paint will work well for months. You’ll still need to remove fallout periodically and a good paste wax then will stand you in good stead.

Quite a lot of variables -

Which wash and wax product specifically?
How often do you wash the car?
What use the vehicle gets between washes?
etc
etc

If you are time restricted something like Gyeon Wetcoat can be applied in a couple of minutes and offers decent protection, in fact better than some traditional paste waxes.

cheers
