Washed my car for the first time in ages and whilst the wheel cleaner got off 99% of the brake dust there are still a few black marks showing. I'm assuming these are brake dust but I guess they could be tar. Same down the sides of the car; washing cleared the majority of marks but there are still a number of small, black marks.

I know tar removers are safe on paintwork but how about on alloys? And if it would be, would the tar remover also remove the brake dust (if that's what the marks are)?

If it's not advisable to use tar removers on wheels, any recommendations to remove the marks? I currently use Wonder Wheels which I know doesn't rate highly; would something like Bilt Hamber Auto Wheels do the trick?

Thanks.

Bilt Hamber make good stuff. Also worth looking at their fallout remover Korrosol.

I'd use that first then tar remover. They can both be used on bodywork and wheels.

You'll think I'm taking the mick but margarine is brilliant at removing tar spots. Wipe a bit on, rub it around and be amazed as the tar evaporates.

I swapped back to butter after finding this out yikes

Wash wheels as normal, follow with tar remover then fall out.

Some fallout may be behind the tar (wheel weights etc)

If using fallout as the wheel cleaner (as in BH autowheels) do another quick spray after the tar remover to make sure.

Its easier with wheels off but not always possible.

Ironx wheel cleaner is great stuff, failing that you might need to clay them in order to remove the spots

Can some recommend a good tar remover? Or can you use the korrosol stuff for that?
