Basically wheels are corroded, paint peeling/bubbling all over. Is it the same basic sand down and paint with rattle can then clearcoat over?

Only painted steel wheels previously so unsure if the steps are different for alloys.

Car isnt worth having them redone by someone else (not mine).

I use Simoniz Steel wheel paint on alloys no need for lacquer.

Just done some on my w203 Merc that I got last week. They weren’t worth sorting with a professional so I did them my self. Sand down with 80 grit then reduce the grit to say 600. Prime, spray with choice of colour then apply clear lacquer. I did the centre caps too. If you zoom in it’s not perfect but is infinitely better than the peeling mess and kerbing that was there before.

Edit: cost for 4 wheels was about £55 - filler, sandpaper, 2 cans of silver Merc spray paint and 2 cans of lacquer from Halfords.

I painted my silver alloys with Dulux black non drip paint.

They came up like new, with a great gloss shine.

Durable too.

Cost £12.00.

Stick old playing cards between the rim and tyre, saves the faff of trying to mask it all off. Or if you want to be ultra lazy, spray them matt black

Getting 4 new tyres so just going to paint everything.

Is there any partiular colour of silver which audi use? The caps are silver so would look odd if wrong.

I’d check the colour chart in Halfords, well that’s what I did. I also took the centre caps apart so I only had to spray the actual cap and not the decal. The finish is directly related to the time you put in. Leave plenty of time for the paint to dry before coats and then lacquer at least twice. Also build up the layers so it doesn’t run.

Wheels only have the 1 cap at the moment so a new set is being ordered so no need to paint them.

Word of advice, dont buy paint stripper from halfords. In small writing on the back at the bottom it says not for automotive paint. Not sure why they would be selling this.
