Hey,

I’m due to collect my new car on Monday (BMW F22) and this time I’ve chosen black, my worry is that I’ll end up with swirl marks and the finish looking “dull” rather fast so I was thinking about using a ceramic finishing product to protect and prolong the life of the paint.

Has anyone got any experience in using a ceramic coating, is this advised on a new car and is there anything I need to know (or avoid) when looking to do this myself?

Any advice or help would be much appreciated smile

Thanks,

Ive just had mine done and the ceramic coating is applied under strict conditions and cured with infra red heat.

I'd get a pro detailer to do it as if its not done correctly the only way to get it off is with machine polishing

Where are you based?

I had mine done last year and would say it is worth it, seems less dirt sticks to it and cleans much easier although still gained a few swirl marks think they are in the coating rather than the paint underneath so could easily get buffed out again.
As said above it has to be applied in certain conditons to properly prepped paintwork so would seek out a decent place that does it.

Is it worth putting paint protection film at the front? And then ceramic coating? Or does going overkill?

You can't put a ceramic over ppf.

If you wanted you could have front end pod and ceramic on the rest of car.

Or you could fully pod car but it's expensive

Yeah I’ve read really positive reviews of having it done and with the car being black I think it’s a must.

What price range would we be talking for someone to apply this for me and how long does it take?

Anyone able to recommend a detailed in the North East? (Co. Durham // Teesside)?

Cheers,

Unfortunately no knowledge of detailers in your are but I found a few names by searching from previous posts. Apologies for hijacking your thread but also in the same position as you.
Not sure whether or not to go ahead with PPF, is it worth it as opposed to a respray/smart repair in case of the odd stone chip?

Had mine fully detailed, 2 stage machine polish, then coating applied on the paintwork, wheels and leather inside was £700 and had the car for 4 days in total was over a weekend though.
Have no experience with the PPF so not sure which would do first but I have gained stone chips so ceramic doesn’t protect from everything but I think the PPF is a lot more expensive.
