I'm spending my holidays touching up the chips on my car and over the last few days I've been gradually filling the chips with the genuine paint. When I've gone to sand them (2000 grit) the paint seems to pull out.

Is it because I haven't left it to cure enough or not thinning the paint. Or, not mixing some clearcoat in?

Thanks

Alex

How did you clean the surface prior to painting?

Indian pale ale? Draught or bottled?

So dry sanding seems to have helped. Just 3 of the 20 or so have pulled out.

You've obviously not abraded or cleaned out the holes enough for the paint to key.

Probably you still have some polish residue in the chips, it's really hard to remove it all.

They've definitely been thoroughly cleaned, but I didn't sand the small ones. Which would explain my problem.

Thanks.

Well, it looks like the paint shop won't have any trouble getting the paint in madmad

A great example of why you should use a block to sand and not a finger.
