Chrome finish/paint on grp
Discussion
Hi guys.
I’ve been trying to get a chrome like finish on fibreglass(GRP) recreation parts for a while now. The parts are some 60’s style bumpers and headlamp rings.
I have tried a couple of companies (at considerable cost) to get the chrome spray finish. Both have got great initial results but have failed (yellowing and flaking) within months.
I don’t know if these processes have failed due to the product or poor application. I’m wondering if you all have an opinion if this process can be made to work if its done right or if it will always fail and I should start looking into any other option.
The prerequisites are that I need a chrome like finish on a fibreglass part which with last on a car exterior.
Options....
Chrome spray?....always fails?
Chrome wrap?.....won’t go round tight contours without discolouring.
Proper Chrome?....needs a copper base(on grp) and is very expensive.
Electroplating?....can’t be done on grp?
Thanks in advance.
