I'm trying to get a replacement bumper replaced, due to a poor colour match. Thoughts? Would you accept this? The bodyshop that replaced my damaged bumper with a new part from Honda says its acceptable and i need to speak to Honda.

That would grate me, I'm sure.

What’s the front one like?

If its the same,a reluctant yes, as sometimes the plastic panels never fully match, if the back bumper matches the body, then no.

I learnt this years ago when taking a a car in for a defect in bumper paint. The body shop guy told me to take a long hard look at the factory finished front and rear bumpers before the job ‘as you will see theyre a slight shade out’ so basically dont moan when the refinished front one is the same, as its due to the base material affecting the shading.

After that I could see it a mile off.

I colour match for a living (leather restoration) that is in no way an acceptable match.

Depends on who it needs to be acceptable to. Who has the deciding vote?

Bumpers often differ from the main body depending on the light. It is pretty well impossible to judge from that one photo.

Did the bumper come pre painted or have they painted it? If it's pre painted then he's right pointing you towards Honda.

It wouldn't be acceptable to me, and I wouldn't expect my customers to accept that either. As for the plastic causing it angle, I can't say.

Not a good match, long way out.
Are they trying to tell you that Honda supplied it pre-painted?
It's them that need to be taking it up with Honda if that's the case.

What model & paint code?

Private job or insurance?

Going by that photo alone, I'd say that it's unacceptable. I'd also be complaining about the fit from looking at that photo though, so it's very hard to tell.

I thought the gap looked a bit tapered too.

unless its a trick of the light, the wing and bumper look a couple of shades out. The gap looks bigger at the top too.

Way off to me.

But in general to the line bumpers are pre painted. From memory JLR used to allow a +/-2% difference.

In initial reading you might think that sounds "fine", but if a car got painted at the other extreme to the bumper then it was very obvious!

Mazda seem to struggle with this sometimes, as I have seen some brand new cars (without any repaired damage this end, which is very common!) with issues exactly like this.

This I noticed the above after owning a silver mk4 Mondeo, they all have a different shade of bumpers, now I cannot help noticing.

But on the OP's It looks like a lighter shade, does the back bumper match the car?

It also looks like a poor fit as well. Gap at headlight end looks wider than the wheel end. Plus (as far as I can see from the photo) the wheel end of bumper is not aligned with the wing.

That's terrible, as others have said the fit looks off too.

Christ, tilt your phone/monitor and it looks like two completely different optional colours! Also was the guy that fit it blind? Awful panel gap.
