Diamond cut scuffs

So due to some annoying old man in a multi-storey car park, I’ve scuffed 2 wheels on my Volvo, diamond cut alloys.
After reading up on the forums and the wider internet, general consensus is to get them refurbed or powder coated when they start to corrode.
But in the mean time, should I use some light wet & dry paper to smooth it out, polish it with metal polish and seal with clear lacquer?
