My car unfortunately was heavily keyed a while back, across pretty much all the car, expect the rear bumper - which was kind of them.

The car has been SORN for a while as have been having work done to it while moving house etc, and now its mechanically sound I want to sort out the cosmetic side of things. Leaving me with 2 options:

- Get the damaged panels resprayed
- Get the car wrapped

There are pro's & cons to each...I think ideally the respray is the best option, although the most costly - I would estimate around £2-3k? I could be miles away, I have not got any quotes yet. Getting the car wrapped would be nice as would freshen it up and make it look different, however would they wrap over deep scratches? Would this make it a harder car to sell in a few years time?

Any advice is appreciated, and if anyone has any experience with anything similar!

I don't have any real experience but I think it might depend on how deep the scratches are. I saw a gold wrapped bentley once (it looked hideous, but that is not the point) and it had been wrapped over scratched wing mirrors. It was pretty obvious to me at a quick glance..........

Perhaps you could get whoever will do the job to slap a bit of offcut wrap over the scratches to see what it looks like?

btw, as to resale, I would not buy a wrapped car but that is just me!

this won't be what you want to hear unfortunately...

however when this happened to my old Volvo T5 years ago, it was quite liberating, just left it and never worried again....

what car, how new, financed?

Wrapping it is literally covering the issue but that would bother me as I'd know it was still there.

Go for the respray option mate. At least that's a permanent fix too. smile

Sorry to hear your car got vandalised too, some proper scum about.

It depends what you want. If you're restoring the vehicle, respray. If you're after a usable classic then flattening the scratches and a wrap might be a better option.

I personally don't like wraps but I can see why people like them.

Its an Audi TT-S. So nothing overly special in the grand scheme of things.

But I really like it and have spent a few quid getting it mechanically perfect, remapped etc. I always fancied getting it wrapped, but agree that it may look really poor if the scratches are visible.

Its a tough one!

I guess my logic with the wrap was, at least if I am spending x amount on a wrap, there is a stark difference so in my head wouldnt seem as costly - if that makes sense...

A form of man maths you could say.

Embrace it lol. Years back there was a chap in my town with a 996 and it was vandalised so many times he just had a graffiti spray job done on it, looked kinda cool

I wouldn't fancy a wrapped car either tbh.

I know this is a youtuber who specialises in detailing/body, but could a repair like this be possible?

Depending on the value of the car, I'd be tempted to just put up with the scratches.

I wouldn’t buy a wrapped car because it means you can’t see the condition of the paint underneath. Surely the cost of a wrap would be enough to pay a bodyshop & detailing company to bring the paint back to good condition without needing a full respray?

I would get it repaired rather than a wrap, then you can enjoy the car again as it used to be. A TT-S is a lovely car and holds its value well so would be worth doing.

I used to own a Focus which got keyed on both sides after parking between two overparked Range Rovers. It was a cheap runaround though so I didn't get it repaired, and felt satisfied that they thought they got the upper hand over me but I didn't care one iota.

A respray whilst not adding value will at least restore value to your car. A wrap will certainly not restore value and could potentially depreciate the car further as the pool of buyers will shrink and it is still damaged underneath.

No brainer IMO

Still a nice car IMO.

If you plan on keeping it for awhile I would get it resprayed.

Appreciate the comments about the car itself, didnt think it was an overly popular choice on here - as it wasn't an MX5 or RWD...haha.

The damage is quite bad to be fair, the paint has started to peel around the scratches, whomever did it was in a right old mood by the looks of it!

Seems the sensible option is a respray and a good polish.

I saw that YouTube vid a few months ago, I think it would have been better to go to the pub and have a few beers to get over the misery of the scratch rather than try his method, to my eyes it produced dismal results whilst seemingly being incredibly time consuming
