3M paint protection film??

Hi all,
after some real close up detailing on my 507 this weekend I've found various little stone chips etc on the car, (as to be expected on a 5 yr old car) So I've decided to have the car re painted in a bodyshop so its A1 before the New 507 side decals go on.
Obviously I'm looking to protect my investment as much as possible, and looking into 3M paint protection film.
Has anybody used this on their cars, if so does it actually work without going yellow in a year or Two?
Also don't want to sacrifice the glossy finish of the paintwork.

Any Honest reviews would be great

I haven’t used 3M only Xpel. When looking for quotes there was not a massive difference in price. I was told that there is always a danger of paint being taken off when removing the film if it has been resprayed previously.

Xpel is the new 3M and will not yellow and retains the original finish and no one will be able to tell its on

Agreed about not putting it on fresh paint
I’ve got it on and even though it was laser cut the edges are clearly visible as it doesn’t go to the edge of all the panels - it’s doing a good job wrt stone chips but it’s not an invisible coating.

Surely if this 507 is an ‘investment’ then the calculation is whether a mild respray and stickers and PPF’s value will be more than that of a non cleaned up 507 at the time you want to sell by the amount you paid for the work?

It’s a Peugeot 507... frankly I wouldn’t bother, over a small brush and a touch up paint.

Probably I’m due a whoosh parrot... I had no idea a 507 could be a fancy Merc model. Or rather, ‘AMG’..

Calculation still stands, but maybe replace touch up bottle and brush with a smart repairer...

Hi Lee,

My company is an Xpel dealer based in Telford so happy to answer any questions you may have.

Comments above are quite correct regarding Xpel being the new 3M as Xpel are now the leaders in the industry simply down to how good there product is. 3M although make some very good products haven't kept upto speed in PPF unfortunately.

Film technology changed around 3 years ago in the UK as self healing film came to market. This means the Xpel film self heals with heat.

This new technology also prevents the yellowing happening and Xpel comes with a 10 year warranty to back this up.

If it's a pug 507 you have then you will need a bespoke kit creating which we can do in house, but if it's a Merc then we would have the computer template for this allowing us to protect whatever you like without trimming on the vehicle as we can computer cut what you need.

Apart from the company that cocked some of my install I can recommend xpel, they tell me it’s 10 year guarantee so no need to worry about yellowing, the edges are not really noticeable unless close up, also it dosnt dull the paint work,if anything I would say mine looks even more shiny with it on.

If its fresh paint you need to wait a couple of weeks for it to harden
If its a smooth surface ie no chips then installing your self is relatively easy as long as its not a windy day.
Plenty of soapy water
There is a guy on ebay that sells 3m film cut to your car. A full kit bumper, spoiler, 1/3 bonnet, sills, arches was c £200 for the jag

you assume correct matey, Its not a Pug 507

After looking into this today, downsides, prices etc etc, I may just have the car painted and freshen it up once a year.to keep it fresh.
