My Audi A1 got wrote off and I was just wondering if anyone knows about how much estimated repairs would be . Car drive fine onto tow truck and doesn’t look like anything is wrong under the bonnet .

How do you know it has been written off? Has it been assessed?

Not sure on the age, or what actually happened but that may not be too bad a fix (depending on age of the car). Don't jump to the 'written off' conclusion unless you have to!

I got a call yesterday from insurance saying it’s been assessed and has been written off . The car is a 62 plate but inside and outside we’re prestige. Just under 50000 miles and I could get the car back for under 1500. Not sure if it’s worth all the hassle though

Not clear until you click on a photo (to enlarge it).

Did the airbags go off? And if so, how many? Those are costly.

I’ll guess at £62.19p.

When I crashed my E class in 2016 I called the insurer and one of the first things they asked was "did the airbags go off". The chap on the phone told me that blown airbag was pretty well an automatic write off.

In the OPs case if that was my car and the bags hadn't gone off I'd have bought it back and got it fixed, but in that state you're looking at half the interior out. No thanks.

I thought that due to the steering wheel airbag not going off that was in my favour as the other two are just plug in.

I'm normally good at these, but how on earth am I supposed to predict the cost without knowing how the repair is going to be carried out?

By the OP or by his personal Oompah-Loompah slave labour, using second hand parts painstakingly procured at the bare minimum prices?

By an Audi dealership, zero parts discount, full on retail spec reaming, paint and all, coffee and hand job on handover?

Some place in between?

Repair done by me using parts definitely not new . Basically as cheap of a repair at a good standard I can get

I wouldn't repair that - too high a likelihood that it's got some chassis damage lurking, not to mention having to source and fit an airbag for the interior.

ETA: Has the pedestrian impact bonnet-jacker gone off as well?

You can paint panels yourself 'to a good standard'?

You've got your own box of tricks to reset the air bags?

I would certainly buy it back

Repair it.

Looks to be headlight, wing, bumper, bonnet. If none of the under bonnet panels, radiator etc are damaged.
Then you are quids in!

Edit : just noticed air bags have gone off.
Unlucky 😂 Unless you are hands on and have vcds or similar I'd leave it. Although a salvage / vehicle breaker would give more than £1500 for it if you dont mind the hassle of selling the car ..

If it is only Cat N (i.e. non-structural) then yeah, fix it. should be easily done. Bolt on parts in the correct colour are easily sourced via specialist Audi breakers or via eBay. The costs can soon mount when you have to faff about with all the little clips etc. but if you like the car and it still goes in a straight line then I'd repair it. Just bear in mind when you come to sell it and it has a marker against it as a write off the trade in value will be considerably less than normal, so basically run it in to the ground.

Obviously not , my main question was not the paintwork and I would get new airbags to be fitted . I would outsource some of the work that I could not complete myself.

There's too much work there ,unless you're an experienced spanner wielder.

"Out sourcing" ....forget it.

Thanks everyone for their input , gonna go and view the car again today and speak to the engineer about what damage has been done. Me and my mates have repaired cars in the past but not sure about the costs involved with this one as never fixed one this bad.

It isn't 'obvious' at all, how are we supposed to know?
