The radiator grill on my old Volvo is plastic with a sort of fake chrome finish (it's an 850) but it's been painted satin black.

I've used petrol and a toothbrush and after a bit aggitation, the black paint is slowly coming off but it's taking ages.

So, just thinking if I could submerge the grill in something, then get the paint off plus out of all the nooks and cronies... but something that won't melt it or damage the already old chrome coating?

Thinners perhaps or one of those oven cleaning kits, bung it in a poly bag and let it soak for a while?

Any thoughts?

Standard thinners using the same method as you were before, I would not soak plastic in any solvent.
