Time for a 'guess that car' topic.

Looks just like dirt to me. a wash and clay bar should suffice. if you are really anal about this stuff you could remove all the rubber trim, clean it,...hell even replace it with new trim.

Just dirt mainly
Clean with traffic film remove to get the worst off then a but of fallout remover then a good wax/polish and it will be 10x better

Local car wash place ask for extra scrub
OR
Self clean clay bar good polish
OR
Take and get a professional valet

Ok, cheers for that. It's only a £2k Subaru forester so I'm not fussed about it gleaming. I'm probably overthinking
it... I'll go with the advice and see how I get on.
