Annoyingly scratched my car reversing looking behind me. Ended up scratching against a entry barrier communication thingy to let me into the car park.

The scratch has peeled some lacquer off as can be seen in the photo. I've never done bodywork stuff before, is this repairable myself, or should I take it somewhere? I'm also not going to be in the country for two weeks, is leaving it that long bad, i.e. will it rust or anything like that?

Looks like a repaint from here. Clean the area off and take some more pics to give us some more detail. thumbup

Will try do so after work, that was the best I could get while stood in the rain! When you say repaint, is that a bodyshop repainting the area kind of thing? I'm guessing this will be quite expensive what with colour matching etc.

Not DIY. Little other than t-cutting off a third party's transferred paint or some very superficial fine scratches as some vegetation might cause is DIYable for an acceptable result on a decent car.

Unless you have tinkered with paint repairs before then, if the damage has gone into the colour coat as appears to be the case in the photo, it’s straight to the body shop.

Re colour matching, I have no idea personally but I don’t recall seeing cars about with grossly mismatching panels like used to be seen.

This suggests that technology has come on a long way and also why it may be worth finding the most up to date body shop.

Where are you in UK? If you’re Surrey / Guildford way I can strongly recomend recommend Louis Wan who has worked on 4 of my Porsche’s, my Maserati and my R8 and does excellent work at good prices, I am fussy.

If you’re not local & you can find a good SMART repair person that might be the route.

I can’t see a body shop filling that painting it, blending in etc for £150 but that’s what a SMART repair would cost roughly

If you’re out the country for 2 weeks that’s the ideal time to get it fixed surely if you can get it booked in

I'm in Wandsworth, SW London. So are you saying something like ChipsAway or similar as a mobile repair kind of place?

If you want a rubbish job then use a smart repairer. The ones I've seen and had experience of weren't worth the money. If you want it done properly then find a decent body shop and accept it'll cost more money. If you're not bothered about the car and just want the scratch gone and the wing vaguely the right shape and colour, a smart repair is the way forward rotate
