I have a W123 Mercedes on which I am cleaning up some small areas of bodywork rust.
All I am trying to do is stop these areas getting worse until I decide whether to get a proper paint job done in future.

The repaired areas are never over about 5cm once the rust has been removed.
I'm happy that that things I've used will at least delay the rust returning for a few years.
I have now started to paint over these areas in the body colour. This is a solid burgundy red.
I am lead to believe that the original type of paint used was TPA. There is evidence of a respray being done at some point probably with the same paint.

I've been using cellulose paint in an airbrush on the repairs and I'm surprised how well it's turning out for what is meant to be a temp repair.

There is one thing that would make it perfect. I can still make out the join in the paint. This is not a change in level or colour, it's more a slight dullness just beyond the new cellulose for about 1cm into the old paint. Beyond this, the old paint can be cut and polished to the same gloss as the new cellulose.

I've read about fade out/ blending thinners and wondered if this is something that would fix the problem by 'melting' the join together better? Can these thinners be used on the join between these differing paint types?
If that's not the right approach, does anyone have any tips for fixing the albeit minor issue?
