This morning, I noticed that smears on the windscreen prevented me seeing adequately when driving towards a low sun. So, whats the best way for a smear free finish?

Water and newspaper?
Dedicated car windscreen cleaner sprays ( or household versions) and wipe with microfibre cloth?
Noticed some newer glass cleaning microfibre cloths with a denser/tighter weave - any good?
Clean inside as well?
Lower the side windows a touch and clean the line 1cm from the top?

Here's a handy guide on how to clean the screen, hope it helps.
I noticed a massive improvement after the claying, as it makes the glass smooth and water just beads off.

If you have an automatic aircon option on the car, so it's always on, you may find that this contributes to the dirt on the inside of the screen.

I use normal glass cleaner inside and out once a month with a microfibre, and once a year I clean the windscreen with Barkeepers Friend (powder mixed into paste). The BKF removes the weird translucent marks which shows up when the windscreen is damp.

Newspaper + standard window cleaner is my way, but whether that's best or not I don't know. smile

Normal microfibre cloth and either Meguiars or Autoglym Glass cleaner, they do what they say on the bottle.

I do tend to apply a rain repellent though. Usually Angelwax H2GO as it's really easy to apply and repels water like crazy.

It's helpful until he recommends a carnuaba body wax instead of using 'rain x'. There are much more appropriate hydrophobic windscreen applications, such as Angelwax H2GO as mentioned above. Angelwax also have a dedicated glass cleaner called Clarity.

I used Meguairs glass cleaner from Halfords last week and initially I thought that it had worked well, but I have noticed a film this week in the low sun which suggests that either I didn't buff off well enough with a clean microfibre, or that it isn't very easy to remove.

I have this week purchased a dual action polisher with felt pads and sonax profiline glass polish. My wife's windscreen has scratches which leads to a bad starburst effect at night, so I'm going to give it a go, followed my mine, as once again, the low sun highlighted lots of tiny pock marks on the exterior glass surface.

Failing that, a damp newspaper has always left it streak free and clean.

I use an ordinary glass cleaner (just Windolene) to clean the glass, using one cloth to remove the dirt and another to buff any remaining residue. Then I use Turtle Wax Hydrophobic Wax to give the glass hydrophobic properties - I've found this better than RainX, but YMMV. I also use the Turtle Wax on the rest of the car when washing it, I've found it beads up really well when it's wet!

Warm water with vinegar applied with a newspaper, then dried with any lint free cloth.
Nothing beats it, imo.
