need a little help deciding which compound to use. i have been trying to read up and narrowed it down to these two (unless someone puts a spanner in the works and suggests something else).

really just want something easy to use that will get reasonable level of correction. i am not expecting miracles as i am completely new to machine polishing so will be my first go. then i can move on to other ranges of compound when i am a bit more familiar.

i probably wouldnt want to use a finishing compound. i think the Scholl is kind of both...not sure on the megs? would that be ok without?

looking to do the wifes Leon - its 2.5 yrs old and black so showing swirl marks now. if that goes well i will move on to my S5...but id rather cock up the leon than the s5!

cheers

Sorry to put a spanner in the works but this for me is significantly better than both you mentioned -

I recently used scholl S20 on my black car, it was heavily swirlled (coincidentally it's also an S5, although 11 years old). It was my first time using a DA too, I used scholl mainly on recommendation of a YouTube channel (forensic detailing). Im not blown away by the results, but I caveat it by repeating the above, it was my first attempt, the car was very heavily 'damaged', it's black so everything shows up and it's 11 years old. I wasn't expecting miracles from it , it probably really needs a full 3 stage correction but for the time/effort i think my paint is still too dull, and there is still alot of very visible swirling.

I'm tempted to buy another 'one stage' product and try again to see if it has a better outcome, thanks to summit for the recommendation.....

Thanks for the recommendation Summit.

That YouTube channel is what led me on to the Scholl S20. My thinking is I would rather start with something less abrasive so I cant mess anything up. Then work up from there. What pads were you using??

I think the megs is more abrasive from what I've read.

I used chemical guys green hex. Basically bought everything he recommends on his beginners guide and followed the demo steps. It's a big car, takes quite a bit of time to round it all.

Do you have a DA polisher? I use Rupes pads - they just work!
You can vary the level of cut not only from the polish used but pad choice, so you could use the polished recommended above on a soft finishing pad and work your way up from there. The polish is very versatile.
