Hello all. This is my first foray into this part of the forum, so be gentle!

I've just bought an old van which has relatively recently had a respray. I've seen pictures of before and during and it looks to have had a pretty thorough prep job. However, it has not been cut back and polished post-paint (death in family, painted by himself etc). It looks dull in areas, as you would expect. I want to have a go at it myself as I think it could look great (Cadbury purple).

Looking at getting a DAS 6 Pro from eBay but unsure what products and grade of pads I should be starting with. I'm thinking a van is a good starting point as it's got plenty of large flat surfaces!? However, I obviously don't want to balls it up.

THE DAS 6 pro, us a great DA fir starting , just don't apply any real pressure with it otherwise it will stall, the PRO PLUS is still a great version too.
As for compounds, again as a starter a good 1step product that works well with a DA is Scholl concepts S20 black mated with Chemical guys hex logic green pads.

There are various other products but as its your first time this is the route i would take.
