Washed my car earlier and decided to use some tyre shine as they were looking a bit grey against the nice clean rims.

However, just wondering now whether it's ok on my painted rims?

You'd think that something which is inevitably going to overspray onto the rims would be designed to be paint safe, and it's not a cleaner or anything (surely just similar to a sealant).

But thought better ask anyway. I'm sure there are alternatives which can be applied by cloth if need be. The stuff I used was some cheapish Carplan spray which I think I bought at a service station or Halfords.

Can’t say I see any point in tyre spray.

I think it'll be fine. I've used a similar spray on my Porsche wheels (not that the make of car really matters) and they were fine

mate nothing to be worry about. most of tyre shine products are not harmful to the extent it will damage rim paints.

This stuff is so cheap, I use it to spray onto the wheels, when they get brake dust etc it just wipes off a lot easier & doesn't harm the alloy.

Most of these products are silicon based, you will fk the tyres as silicon degrades the plasticisers in the rubber compound. Micro cracking is the problem.

Any thought on here about using old school black shoe polish (the wax in a can), I used to use it all the time will no ill effects in exactly the way you would buff a shoe, it gives you the shine you want depending on the time you spend buffing it, it always seemed to work the best when not applied thickly
