Spray exhaust tips?
Discussion
Right guys got my hands on some 4inch exhaust tips to fit on my quad exhaust. I’ve bought an aggressive rear diffuser and the stock tips just get hidden inside the diffuser so I’ve had to go big. I bought them from a fellow member of a Facebook group, he sprayed them black with this stuff called mycote extreme heat, anyone know if this stuff is any good? Problem is its flaking in some places so it obviously needs a once over. Any recommendations on what to use? Should I just spray a few coats over it and be done with it or should I sand it down etc beforehand? If so would some wire wool do the trick? Can see normal sanding paper being too abrasive and scratching away at the chrome pipe beneath?
Any help appreciated

Hey guys want to spray my exhaust tips in black, what shall I use? Bought off a mate and there flaking abit after he sprayed them black in ‘Hycote extreme temp black’ should I sand them down first or just paint a few coats on? If so should I use something like wire wool as sand paper might be too abrasive and scratch away at the chrome beneath?

Paint on chrome needs a good key. 320 grit wet and dry paper will take the shine off and provide just that.
Exhaust tips may get hot but not that hot you need vht paint.
To get the paint to stay on over chrome you need to use an etch primer like Upol 1k etch. Top coat it with Upol gloss/satin. Both are brilliant to use as an aerosol, high pressure cans with a very good spray pattern.

Thanks for input guys, surely there must be something out there solvent wise that will strip the old paint off? Rather than fannying about sanding down 4 tail pipes. Valid point scratching the surface will help the paint true as intended. Knew I should’ve just coughed up for a new set lol
Had a little nose on google and quite a few people mention wire wool and indeed sanding paper with swirl the chrome. I then did a few searches on paint stripper for my very problem and a few people attempted with success, one bloke in the states even mentioned graffiti remover which worked for him. Worth a shot? Maybe go over with some chrome polish once removed?
Thinners or Starchem synstryp will remove the paint. The synstryp stuff is NASTY, lots of dichloromethane in it, I think that’s what nitromors used to have in it before the EU regs cut its balls off.
As far as cerakoting is concerned, I’ve used a place called riflecraft for gun parts; they have another section to the business that specialises in exhausts and other car parts.

Thanks for input guys, where Any suggestions on what to go for or any links please, I’m hopeless at picking the right product. Any normal high street retailer would be great, screwfix, b and q, wicked Euro car parts, Halfords etc is it just a case of dabbing on some rag or micro fibre then rubbing off? Or should I just pour over exhaust tips then wipe it off? Many thanks
