Ever wonder why you bother having nice things? That's how I felt today...

Picked up these today (don't know how) on the passenger side front door. You can feel the ride of the paint where the scratches are and wondered if it would be possible to machine polish them out or if it is respray only?

I don't think all of that will come out and it doesn't help that it goes across an edge. Best guess is a push bike pedal has done it.

If you can hang your finger nail in it, it is unlikely to come out completely but could be improved. Can’t really see in the picture, but it looks a lot lighter in the scratch so you may be through the clear coat at least.

Try this link below and go to about 12:50 for the briefest explanation of what can be achieved with stuff that doesn’t machine polish out safely (the earlier stuff talks about what can typically be achieved with single or multi stage correction).

Obviously if you are scratched through the colour, then the improvements are going to be limited and paint will be required to cover the sight of primer / metal beneath.
