Carrying out body repairs for a complete novice

It's a bit difficult to tell from the photo exactly what's wrong - is there a dent there, or just the scratch mark? Has the paint cracked towards the bottom left corner of the scratch, or is that just the light?
You might get away with some decent compound (something like the Farecla stuff they sell in Halfords now I think) to remove the marks, and a decent wax over the top.
If you've never done it before, maybe one of the dent-remover or "chips-away" kind of places could sort the problem out at a reasonable cost?

I presume it's some kind of scratch remover, but the thing with the world of compounds and polishes is that every time I look, there's a new brand that everyone seems to suggests is the new great thing. I'm guessing it's this: https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paints-and-body-...
