My dad is doing a few small cosmetic repairs to his car whilst in lock down. He doesn't have any respiratory issues but would be in vulnerable category for COVID due to age hence a bit of caution around this.

He knows paint process fine and level of results but we're struggling to work out correct respirator mask and filters - been a long time since hes carried out a project like this. He would be doing it in a garage but can have door open. Not huge areas but a bit of sanding then spraying of primer, base coat and lacquer.

Respirator masks look like they'll become more available over coming weeks and not looking to buy out from anyone more needy - this is not essential project but been interesting. We can get JFP P3 respirator on eBay which seems good for dust etc. but less sure on fumes?

Could anyone help?

Sorry if a bit of a basic question and understand some of us would maybe just use something basic and plenty ventilation.

Have a look here https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&amp...

It's the 3M mask guide, I've always used 3M vapor masks when spraying

If your doing a few jobs then it's better to get a Half-Mask. The JSP Force 8 ones from Screwfix are excellent and were usually less than £20 pre Covid

Unfortunately you can't get the replacement respirators for the JSP one for love or money since the Covid crisis kicked off in March. I've just been making do with a spare 3M FPP3 mask I had which get dirty and fall apart after a few uses.
