Whenever it rains and I have my wipers on, my windshield fogs up for a split second and goes back to clear. Any idea why this is?
I have read about it and it could be a wax layer which is highly possible as I have washed my car with a shampoo that contains wax about a month ago. So is there any way I could remove this layer with household items?
Also the longer I have my wipers on, the louder they get. After about 5 minutes of running when it rains, they jolt and jump and make a deep squeak if that makes sense, any idea why this is?
The wipers are new. When I did wash my car, I did use a clay bar on the windshield and the body of the car.

Maybe it’s an American screen and British wax ?

I use rainex ( yes I know) On my windscreen and don’t have a problem with fogging

I was told that cheap toothpaste works for this, by a friend who worked in wiper design for major manufacturers. I tend to use a good windscreen cream cleaner.

Hmm, Does sound like the wax in the car wash.

Household removal; I've got a couple ideas:

Wipe down screen with dish shoap to degrease and strip, follow up with glasscleaner.

If that doesn't work, toothpaste polish.

I spray a 50-50 mix of white vinegar and water and use a proper microfibre glass cloth to get the screen squeaky-clean. I've yet to find anything better or cheaper.

I get this whenever someone else washes my car for me and as you say, it is the wax in the car shampoo.

Any generic glass cleaner will clean it off.

I get a scum buildup that does this and even decent car shampoo or Mr Muscle glass cleaner doesn't shift it. I use Barkeepers friend mixed into a paste. That sorts it for a few months.

I'll clean up with some glass cleaner see if that has an effect.
I have a ford fiesta mk6, I'm thinking of replacing the screenwash, is there a way to drain the screenwash reservoir? Or just spray it till its empty.

...and don't forget to give the blades a good cleaning also - the wax/grease tends to embed itself in the rubber edge.

I’ve tried many methods over the years to try and get windscreens completely clean. I’ve just found the ultimate method courtesy of YouTube. Use a magic eraser and windscreen cleaner as a lube and go over the whole screen bit by bit. Never been cleaner.

Link to the video please.

I just use wet wipes now and again, as have them in the car for the kids.

Try vinegar on a cloth first off, if no or little improvement order some Carpro Ceriglass - that'll do the trick!

Cheers,

Chris

This isn’t the exact one I watched (I couldn’t find it unfortunately) but it covers pretty much the same thing.

The first time I tried I got pretty good results but the windscreen cleaner (used as a lube with the magic eraser) didn’t quite shift stubborn water spots. I then tried again but used the brilliant Koch Chemie FSE as a lube. This time the windscreen was as clean as I’ve ever got a screen. FSE is an excellent quick detailer but its speciality is in removing water spots.

If the screen has water spots I advise spraying on the FSE and leave for ten seconds to do its stuff on them. Then use the magic eraser all over, spraying on more of the liquid as a lube if it needs it.

Once you’ve finished with the FSE and eraser dry off the whole screen with a decent microfibre. Repeat the process on the inside of the glass, this time spraying the lube directly onto the eraser, as spraying directly onto the glass inside the car can get a bit messy.

I hope that helps.

Further to my previous post it’s worth cutting down the magic eraser to something a little smaller. I cut mine into roughly 6 inches by 2 inches. It saves the rest of the block for other uses.
