Evening All,

Unsure wether this is the right section for this question but here goes.

I bought some 17" 1 series alloys last week pretty cheap, had no tyres but new ones have been fitted now.

I only noticed after picking up the wheels the black paint on it had chipped off and the silver underneath came up as if if like they were plasti-dipped? Cause its so flakey its definitely paint.

I decided to scrape the lot off and have it's original silver although I can't access the lugholes too well and half of 1 wheel seems to be a little harder getting the paint off. I don't want to go rough on it because I've already seen scrape marks I've left "oops".

Any advise on getting the tougher bit of paint off? I've even tried using the jet wash but it's still being stubborn.

Thanks, Dave.

If it’s paint I don’t think anything will touch it, have you tried a white spirit or even petrol?

I dabbled a bit of white spirit earlier and left it briefly. The jet wash seemed to of got a bit more off but I then used a trolley coin to get the fought bits of paint off. Seemed to of done the trick I guess.

Just need to use some polish and go over the minor scratches I've left another day.

Cellulose thinners but if you're not careful or unlucky you will take off the silver too, hopefully if it's 2k clear you will be ok,if not you'll probably make a mess
