Recently bought a 2015 Mitsubishi L200 as we’re moving to the country and I’ll need it for house renovation type stuff (plus I do like a pickup).

I washed it for the first time today and found that there were marks/streaks in the paint that wouldn’t come off using the wash mitt.
Then I stepped it up to a fairly strong concentration of meguires all purpose cleaner with no effect, the clay bar also had no effect.

Eventually I used super resin polish thinking it could be oxidised paint and it seems to have cleared the problem. Doing the whole truck is a pretty good workout!

I was just wondering if this sounds like oxidisation or something else, purely out of curiosity.

I did half the bonnet on the right side in the photo, the left side isn’t a shadow it’s discoloured.

General fallout/pollutants?

Possibly a paint cleanser along the lines of Dodo Juice lime prime (or whatever the kids are all using now a days) may be effective in removing whatever is dulling the paint. I’d say it is oxidisation of sorts.

Crap "synthetic wax" which cannot take UV, white shows it every time.

I didn’t know cheap wax would have that effect, suppose if you’re going to see it anywhere white would show it up.

I’m not sure the previous owners were the type to be washing and waxing it judging by the bits the garage have missed before selling, hence thinking it was probably oxidisation.

I’ll see about going over it with a cleanser to clean up the surface

Yep that looks like general oxidisation from here.

Super Resin will be a temporary fix.

Without resorting to machine polishing to remove the dead layer of paint you could also try a true glaze like Meguiars #7 which will act like a moisturiser - much like Nivea on skin.

Cheers,

Chris

Yep, it looks like the paint but (my bet) it is the micro thin layer of UV stained resin on top of the paint.

Machine polish is the only real way of removing it completely. Not normally seen (on anything other than white) for obvious reasons.
