Paint damage - cause?

What does this look like? Curious to find out what actually caused it. Looks like an acid has eaten at the paint and it’s all broken down. Smooth to the touch though which is odd. Won’t come off with any polish or machine. Didn’t want to have panel resprayed on a new car so thinking of rejecting. Totally gutted, bits of damage on roof too and scratches on bonnet so the approved body shop wanted to respray the whole car claiming as it’s a pearl paint it would be needed for blending and paint application to ensure a good finish. Dealer refused to cover (and I’d not be happy with sprayed panels as I’d always be comparing)

I am wondering if this is it, given I can't imagine any paint process causing these kinds of defects.

I’d just change the car if that’s an option open to you.

Suntan lotion from peoples fingers/hands can leave marks on cars similar to that.

I got such a good deal on it I’m having thoughts of keeping it but I know this would annoy me and white pearl paint (GT86) I’ve heard is tough to match. An independent paint shop (Toyota approved) wanted to redo the whole car as there was damage to the roof and bonnet too. Problem is, I signed it off and taken delivery but didn’t notice damage until next day after I washed it.

I haven’t tried, as the paint looks broken, I’d be scared it make it worse.

My car is pearlescent white. One day I noticed lots of little spots on the roof where the lacquer had gone so I had to respray the roof. I was concerned about matching pearlescent paint on a 15 year old car, but the body shop did a really good job. Being that the roof is in isolation maybe helped as there was a break between the other panels. Good luck with getting it sorted.

Blowing the photos up best guess - but it is only a guess - would be drops of some sort of corrosive liquid/substance.
Looking at the water drops they look deeper at their 6 o'clocks & the damage looks much the same - the damage is worse at the bottom of the drop.

Usually can be compounded out quite easily though.

You should be fine with a decent body shop. My dad has a pearlescent white (Pug 508) and had a panel resprayed. Looks good in all lights.
