Advice please from the knowledgable,
I have had two very similar prices for painting a fibreglass shell. One is using a base coat and lacquer the other just two pack.I would trust either guy with the job but wondered on any plus or minus to the process.
Thanks

I would say 2k would be my choice if I was paying someone. Ideally 2k with a 2k lacquer. 2k is much stronger than 1k.

As a panel beater/painter I’d go for clear over base every time. I feel you get more depth with cob than you would with 2k direct gloss.

That wasn't the question.

Hopefully Paintman will be along soon.

As the owner of a few very elderly motors I was extremely sceptical when the painter doing work on one of them told me it would be done in base coat and a 2k lacquer. Everything I'd seen done that way looked a bit 'plasticky' to me. I was (and still am some 20 years later) absolutely delighted with the finish. It's obviously down to how good and careful the craftsman is. I've had a few more done since with varying degrees of satisfaction as the original chap retired, but have been lucky enough to eventually find another 1st class painter.

2k clear generally has more uv protection than straight 2k.
It's also easier to colour sand and buff.
Base and clear would be my choice
