About 8 years ago I had a car plastidipped via a professional company. The result was a horrid orange-peely matte finish.

Is it still awful today? Can you get a gloss finish anything like paint or vinyl?

I'm asking if Plastidip can be anywhere near as good as paint or vinyl

If it was a statement, why did it end in a question mark?

It was a short hand version of saying... have you considered paint or vinyl wrap.

Wasn’t that hard to figure out was it. laugh

Me: Hello waiter! Does the soup of the day taste as good as your regular soup or special soup?

Waiter: Have you thought about trying our regular soup or special soup?

Me: That's not what I'm asking

Waiter: ???

Get some more done by either the same company or another one & see if things have got better in the intervening years.

A very brief google suggests that the amount of orange peel may be down to the person applying it - so no different to any other car paint finish.

Watch some YouTube of the plastidip glossifier and decide if it's smooth enough for you. People should have got the hang of applying it by now, half the problems were people trying to apply it in thin layers like paint.

I’ve been playing with spray wrapping over the last 12 months at work.

I’ve not used those fence sprayer type set ups just the normal spray guns.

Using a 1.7mm gun and allow it to flow out you can get a pretty good finish, but if you want a really good finish look at top coating it with the satin or gloss top coats.
Using a 1.3/1.4 set up the gloss will flow out like a lacquered finish which you can flat and polish after or 800 grit back down and flow coat leaving a finish like glass.

My only issue is drying times, it ties the booth up, just have to plan the week around a job.
