Evening guys just wondering if dying leather seats is an easy job? Any recommended products? Any before and after pics? Is there any decent companies around offering this service and typically how much does it cost? I have carbon fibre effect black seats with cream inserts which I ain’t huge fan of, love the seats but the cream just bugs me.

Any help appreciated thanks

Plenty of options, as far as I leather seats are actually painted.Probably need the right kind of paint though.

I know wheeler dealers had the seats colour changed when they did the BMW Z1, basically roughen up with wet/dry paper and spray. Sounds like it would be a disaster, but turns out quite well.

Have also seen a Youtube video of plain spray paint on a cloth with thinners, but this was to refresh seats with the same colour:

Or stick this query in Youtube for some other options:

You can get seat dye on line fairly cheaply so maybe worth a go.

Funnily enough the inspiration sparked from that very episode of wheeler dealers tonight smile didn’t realise they’re able to produce such good results, well impressed. In all honestly I dont know if I trust myself to carrying out the sanding etc myself. Certainly open to spraying them but again for sake of a few 100 quid might be worth having a pro do his magic. Next dilemma is deciding what colour to go for. Black is obviously safe option but I have a chance to make my car a one off here I’m thinking perhaps a dark red insert

These are the seats, with obviously cream inserts in rear bench and seats too, door cards are fine just a carbon effect leather, reckon a dark red could work?

Yes, it's Fermit that's the ninja in this. Sadly I think he's not currently working for health reasons but he always seems willing to offer advice. Drop him a note.

Many thanks for link to website I will have a nose on there, Kermit? Anyone know how I get hold of this chap? Is the dye long lasting anyone know? It doesn’t wash away and stain clothes overtime does it?

It's Fermit, not Kermit - he likes spoonerisms I think! I don't know him but he's quite a regular poster and as mentioned above, generous with his expertise.

Carbon effect leather? How does that work. Is it leather or moulded vinyl?

I think you will have great difficulty changing the colour on these seats. You will lose the "carbon effect" (if it's real leather — if not you'll have to use a dye/paint suitible for vinyl). And on the "leather" bits, you're going to have dyed stitching which will look silly and cheap.

You will not make those seats looks like original quality, but a different colour, by slapping some paint on.

There full leather mate, carbon nappa seats was the priciest option from factory. I only intend to change the cream parts happy with the black bits and stiching

Nuera in Leicester produce the dyes and cleaning products for the likes of Furniture clinic and Nuera offer kits and advice:
http://www.nueraproducts.co.uk/automotive.html

I'm in the process of restoring and recolouring the leather interior on my Rover P5B

Oh and Nuera can offer you spirit based recolourants whereas the other suppliers can't or won't due to shipping requirements.

Fermit is helpful but has stopped working. Shame as he was my choice to re do my seats. I am getting another company in Loughborough to do them though.
