Having just bought a decent car I’m keen to look after it (although this may be short lived)

It’s only a few months old so will just need some kind of polish? Won’t it? I really don’t look after my cars much.

What do you recommend?

Paying someone for a ceramic coating, so that you only need to toss a bucket of water at it on occasion, stand back and admire your car and go back to what you enjoy.

I could open a small shop with all the detailing products I've got, and of all the products I've used, I'm now a convert to Turtle Wax Hybrid Solutions for easy application and reasonable longevity.

Absolute piece of piss to apply and lasts for a good 3 months or so with each application.

Also should add that the Meguiars version gets good reviews but I've not tried it myself... Someone on Youtube has tested a series of them and the meg's product came out ahead of the Turtle Wax one-

I like Meguiars Kwik Wax. Spray on, buff off, leaves the paint feeling silky smooth and looking glossy. And it’s about half the price of the ceramic ones.

A decent ceramic coat requires the paint to be polished (mopped) first to take all the scratches and swirls out.
Depends on what your budget is, how long you want the shine to last, max gloss or max durability or somewhere between the two?

Autoglym super resin gives a nice finish.

The Polish guys at my local car wash do an okay job for fifteen quid. Seventeen if it’s an MPV or 4x4.

If you don't really look after your car's much I wouldn't even bother starting something yourself. You'll do a bunch of work now and then in a few months have to do it again. And then again and so on.

Like said, take it to a detailer, get some form of paint ceramic or ppf and then forever more not have to worry much.

This. Get it to a detailer, get it coated then follow their advice on care.

Don’t touch your car with a ‘polish’ like super resin polish unless you know what you are trying to achieve with it - ie paint correction.

If you just want to spend a bit of time getting it shinny and looking good then a kit like this is the way (basically just a gentle wash solutions, a wax, the right cloths etc, grit guard for the bucket, But no polish) :

It depends on the colour of your paint, the condition of it, what you’re trying to achieve... light scratch correction... heavy swirl removal... classic car with delicate paint...

Wow, I haven’t tried that, I do use wax it wet, so easy to use and beads for ages.

I’m a big fan of Turtlewax.

Worst I’ve ever used? Autoglym super resin.

Autoglym Ultra High Definition Wax. Very easy to apply to a wet car with the applicator pad and super easy to polish off with the micro fibre cloth provided.

IMO it's better than their Super Resin Polish as it doesn't go powdery.

Leaves a lovely coating on the car and you can see the water beading and running off.

Even my garage asked what I used as they said it was so easy to wash.

If you like Super Resin Polish give Ultra High Definition Wax a try as I'm sure you'll prefer it.

Just out of interest Mike what is it that you didn’t like about it? I had to use it to get rid of Turtle Wax hydrophobic sealant wax ( not the hybrid solutions)that left a really cloudy finish and holograms that looked shocking. Resin polish for me goes on very easy wipes off with no effort and masks swirls and leaves a really decent gloss. Only downside it can get powdery if you put loads on.

I have tried many different waxes and sealants and found the best to Zaino Z8 - simple spray on, wipe off and without doubt produces the deepest, glossiest black of all the ones I’ve tried.

There’s a bit of debate over wether it’s a quick detailed or a sealant but that’s largely irrelevant.

It’s a touch on the expensive side for a QD/sealant and can be a bit tricky to get as it goes out stock quickly.
