Bought this. Originally thought it was wrapped, I’d not heard of plasti dip.

It has a rough texture and has chipped in places, showing the original paint.

I started trying to peel it. Could only get it off the black plastic trim.

I’ve tried wd40, alcohol, nothing was lifting it off.
Managed to do this to the door with petrol.

The silver you can see in the 2nd picture is still lacquered and not keyed. the door shuts haven’t been coated, but there’s not an edge, it’s not been masked when painted. i dont get why it’s not peeling.
I’ve got some tar and glue remover coming, hopefully that will help.
Any ideas appreciated.

Have you tried a pressure washer? It shifted most of the plastidip off the wheels on my old car

Are you even sure the car is all silver under the plasti dip??.

Have you seen any images of the car pre coating? I'm sure it was on here that someone bought a yellow MX5 that he thought was a wrap but was plasti dip. After removing most of the coating it turned out half the car was green, the wings black and bonnet black or bluelaugh

I could handle that on a cheap car not on anything worth a few quid.

Thanks for all your replies.
The cars an rx8. 2006
It looks like someone has rattle canned it black, and plasti coated over the top. No keying of the factory paint.
It looks dull as there’s still a layer of crap on most of it
Using base coat thinners today I achieved this.
It’s not touched the lacquer as it’s factory, but if I come to repairs I’m sure I’m going to have more problems.
I used about 200ml of base coat thinners, that’s all I had. That thinner has a bit of xylene in it, I’m going to pickup more tomorrow, can I use standard thinners instead as it’s much cheaper??
It may not be rattle can black or could be plasti cote primer?
I think it’s had a small dent on the passenger rear quarter, if they’ve not sanded back the original paint I’ll be happy

And looking GOOD, that paint will need a heavy amount of clay bar & pre wash but it's certainly looking very promising!

Be careful though, don't get too high on thinners laugh
