A week ago I gave Gtechniq G1 a go, I cleaned, clay barred and polished all the exterior glass in my car with most focus on the windscreen. I applied 3 coats of G1 onto my windscreen as it said and a coating on the wipers, I got new wipers as well.
Results are what I wanted, water beads off perfectly and at high speeds, the water just slides off, however, when going slow, or when driving in heavy rain where there is mist from other cars I need to use my wipers to get the visibility and that's when I get horrible wiper judder.
Weirdly enough the wiper judder stops if I use my screenwash for some odd reason, but then continues once screenwash has been washed off.
Does anyone have a real solution to this? I know it's a thing with coatings that you could get wiper judder but surely there must be a way around it.
Here is a video of how bad it is.

I know in the video it's just a bit of rain, but even when going 50+mph and I use the wipers, it judders just like that.

I get this with RainX or any other windscreen coating. The judder soon disappears.

Have you tried putting some of the G1 on the wiper blades as well? I have done that in the past with other products that have caused this and not had issues. Make sure the blades are cleaned first as well

Yes, I have, I'll apply some more when the weather gets better as I have some leftover.

Similar happened every time I used rainx. Not quite full judder but smearing, to the point nighttime driving was worse than any benefit from the beading/run off.

Better option for me has been just spray the autoglym polar seal on the windscreen. It explicitly says not to, but it works just as well as rainx but without the smearing.

I machine polished our old Lexus last week with a soft pad and Megs carnauba wax. I did absolutely everything the polisher could reach, including the glass, then forgot I'd done it and was amazed at how much better the wipers seemed! It's pouring here now, and I'm just about to do an hours round trip, so I'll know better how much effect this has later on. I'll report back. laugh

Thats why I spent a bit more and got Gtechniq G1 as its way superior to rain-x (anything is probably better than rain-x), I had the same issue when I applied rain-x about a year ago for the first time. There is no smearing what so ever, just the judder that bothers me.

I actually want to polish my car soon, what sort of pad would you recommend? The car has never been machine polished in the past.

Just leave the windscreen as glass and don't apply any sort of coating
It seems people have more issues with these coatings then benefits

I’ve never had a positive result with any coating. Decent Bosch aero wipers( not fakes from EBay) and decent screenwash (Nothing comes close to Decosol) has never let me down.

Hi, I'm not the best to ask, as it's the first time in a long time I've done this. Just for polishing I use a 5" black pad, the colour I believe usually indicates the softest. I'm not precious about brand names, there are different types, dimpled or flat doesn't seem to matter. I did the van I just bought to take out the ghosting effect it had from the previous owners sign writing, just polishing with no abrasives and one pass with the machine dealt with that, so it was easier than I'd dared hope. It had been done before I got it, badly, and I'm assuming with an orbital, not a DA given the swirl marks. It made a massive difference doing it again.

On the Lexus, I did the headlights which were cloudy, the glass and the black trims around the glass, the wiper arms, and the paintwork obviously. Very happy with the results.

I've been out in the rain earlier, and the screen clears really easily, but the wipers are noisy and occasionally juddery. So maybe not the smartest thing to have done the glass!

That's my experience too - I simply use a glass polish from time to time but glass coatings on the windscreen inc G Tech have been more trouble than their worth.

Thats because these coatings mean the water beads into much smaller droplets and has been mentioned above that when the wiper passes over the existing water it turns it into a kind of mist tat the blade cannot remove. Even worse at night when all the light gets reflected and refracted.

I`d clean off the nano coating and just stick with regular glass cleaner.

Tried all sorts of cleaner/coating and not much works. Have a set of PIAA Silicone blades now. Loads better and it leaves a coating of silicone on the screen after ever sweep.

I never have had any judder and I've used a lot of windscreen coatings.

It's important to properly clean the wiper blades with a good de greaser.
And also apply the windscreen coatings to a very clean windscreen

It also can help to apply some coating to the blades.

Ive used most coatings.
Flyby30
G1/g5
Supernatural glass sealant
Gyeon q2

Etc.

Flyby30 was the worst but that was a long time ago so maybe they have re formulated

Judder can come from uneven application of coating
Applying to dirty windows
Using dirty wipers
Etc

I've heard others have issues but generally its one of the above issues.

Personally wouldn't be without a coating I hate going in cars without them. So much safer and easier to see.
