Hi all,

After some advice please, as this is an area I do not know well.. Recently picked up a car where the previous owner had Xpel Ultimate (front area, wing mirrors etc) and other areas covered by Gtechniq Serum Ultra. I spoke to the detailers that installed it and they suggested you just need to wash it and dry and no need for any other products.

Whilst I am happy that a decent level of protection was added to the car at great cost, my weekend detailing pleasure has been somewhat curtailed using my favourite products. Looking online plenty of product makers suggest you can layer on top of ceramics, whilst others suggest it could shorten the life of the serum and interrupts it's beading qualities. Also the same question on the PPF, should you layer on top?

If you enjoy waxing your car then yes you can absolutely carry on doing this over Ultra. As you've mentioned the only downside is you lose the water behaviour and slickness properties of Ultra.

If Xpel is anything like PremiumShield PPF then the film has hydrophobic properties built in to its top layer. Again no reason why can't wax over the top although this may clog up the ppf surface. I would also avoid a wax with petroleum distillates in it as this used to cause yellowing of PPF - although film has advanced over the years I'd stick to a true carnauba wax from one of the boutique brands like Swissvax or Zymol.

Cheers,

Chris

Thanks Chris. I was thinking something like an LSP - P&S Beadmaker or Zaino Grand Finale, is that ok? My to go wax is Collinite 845, however I would bet that contains petroleum.

I can't comment for all LSPs but I know P&S Beadmaker plays nicely with ceramic coatings. I personally use it as a topper to my CSL/EXO coated cars after each wash to give it a bit more shine and to stretch out the coatings durability. I'm not sure I see the point of applying a traditional sealant like Collinite, or if it would adhere to the coating like the LSPs do

Yes Collinite products contain petroleum distillates.

I've no experience of the p&s, but you'll be fine with Z8, although it is very much an old school product which has been overtaken somewhat.

Give this a go if you fancy buying something new once your Z8 runs out -
