I recently caught the back of my car above the wheel arch which has plastic trim around it on the drive wall. It’s not bad enough to spend a ton Having the entire thing replaced so I decided to sand it, fill the scratches with body filler and then spray it.

All that went fine except the colour paint is totally wrong. To my eye the bumper isn’t black, it’s close but that means dark grey to me, so I bought dark grey spray paint and it’s completely wrong.

Does anyone know how I can find out the actual colour of the bumper? I know the car has a code for the paintwork but I can’t seem to find anything for the bumper.

There are a thousand shades of dark grey. Marble it was originally black, but then faded. Is painting the whole bumper an option?

Car make and model would help.

But I also doubt buying "black" or "dark grey" will work as there are countless shades available. But again is it a gloss finish or matte and is it a specific colour to that car etc?

Have you asked the dealer and / or Googled based on the car make, model and are?

Hi everyone , sorry for the delay.

It’s not faded because the car is only 18 months old, it’s 2019 Hyundai Kona.

Photo attached, it’s plastic they put around the arches so it’s not the same as the body

Is that actually painted, or just the colour of the plastic?

most likley colour in the plastic

like i said any motor paint place or bodyshop will have experience in dealing with it and be able to match it up close enough

Looks like a matt finish.
Trim such as this is frequently textured to a greater or lesser degree.
If it is & appearance is important then your best option will be to replace the damaged part.

Sounds normal...based on what type of plastic is being used for each purpose!

The colour of the plastic around the wheels is different to the one on the bottom under the doors but only slightly.

Sounds like the body shop would be the best bet here, I mean I also do artwork painting and I could probably match the colour myself but I wouldn’t be sure on what type of paint to use (acrylic, oil etc)
