Morning All,

Below is an image of how I found my macan yesterday evening. A strange hardened black stuff all down the front. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? Tried washing off with car cleaner but did nothing.

I would be using something like a very strong degreaser on that ASAP - looks like a tar-like substance from the pics to me ... is it sticky??

Does it have an odour?

Was there anything dripping from above?

Have you also tried neat washing up liquid? Its not ideal but it may work, and then cleanse the paintwork properly/prep/wax etc.

Nope its not sticky at all. Fully hardened.

Does it have an odour?
No odour at all.

Nope - nothing dripping down from above.

Tried neat washing up liquid last night, but didn't even dent it.

Cheers.

Hard to tell from a photo, but that almost looks like something that has burned through the paint and attacked the metalwork? Or is it definitely on the surface?

Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover or an equivalent product applied with a soft cloth.

OP, how long since you last used the car? That looks like severe rust to me. What does the underside of the bonnet look like?

Nasty. If it won’t come off easily I’d be taking it to an OPC or a body shop for advice.

Very strange.

Where was it parked and when was it last seen correct?

Someones attacked the bonnet with one of those paint remover sticks. It's been done a whilst and rusted

That looks like its through the paint??

Has the car been stood for a while?

Looks malicious to me, paint stripper etc and subsequent rust, anything on the bumper/grille?

The car was fine on Saturday afternoon, so I don't think its long enough for it to have rusted. Will take it to a body work place and let you know what they say. Weird...

Also it seems to be on top of the paint or alongside it. When you run your finger over it, you can feel it goes upwards.

It wouldn't have rusted naturally in that time, but if a chemical was used it could cause that kind of reaction

My thought too. It looks like someone’s dribbled a line of Nitromors (or similar paint stripper) along it.

Looks like it might be an odd bird poo or similar.

Try putting a cloth over it and soak it with water for a few hours.

Interesting on the bird poo suggestion. I was at an RSPB bird sanctuary at the weekend. Hmmm.

That must have been one hell of a bird! What are they feeding them there?

I've seen bird st like that before on a car. Get it off immediately. Hot cloth and soak. If it proves tricky, leave the cloth on it and pour some extra water onto the cloth from a freshly boiled kettle and wait some more. Hopefully it has not etched the paintwork underneath.

Has your car been cermaic coated at all ?

Not ceramic coated as far as I know.

Took the car to a body work dealer. They said they'd never seen anything like it before. Reckoned it was acid or bird poo. The paint had started to bubble underneath, which you could make out from this photo.

Guess I'll never know for sure, but reckon bird poo is the most likely given it happened there or in a secure underground car park.

Has it cleaned off or is there lasting damage that needs rectification ?

Lasting damage. Using strong detergents did absolutely nothing.
