POR 15 vs Hammerite
Discussion
Managed to pull a few threads from 2007 on this… But more recent postings elsewhere including YouTube seem to have turned more negative on POR 15 since then.
Which one is a better bet for some discrete corrosion correction?
It will be in behind and underneath the front wing - a few bubbles to sand back then protect somehow. Given the awkward location I want to brush something on instead of spraying. I thought Hammerite being cheaper and not requiring UV/top coat would be more convenient, but if POR 15 is superior I will spring for that.
Is it advisable to layer on waxoil on top as well once dried?

The biggest problem I had with POR-15 on my recent restoration was on smooth new metal, because it really needs to be able to key to it. Despite scuffing it up a bit, I did see parts of it peeling off like a skin when I was removing some masking tape.
The trouble is that, like Nitromors, Hammerite isn't what it used to be. Years ago it was good stuff, and probably lots of people painted stuff with it in the seventies and eighties that is still good, but the current product doesn't last as well. I do read good things about various Bilt Hamber products.
I'd say if it's under the car, some sort of protection on top of the paint will be a good thing, whether it's stonechip or a wax-based product. I also hear bad things about Waxoyl these days despite the fact that it was one, like Hammerite, the must-have product. I don't know whether that's because it has got worse, or because other products have had more development and are "better". Again, the BH range is supposed to be good, depending on your requirement.

Hammerite is useless these days. Por15 is okay if you follow the prep instructions religiously but to be honest it's a bit of a ballache and not really worth the time/effort.
I like Epoxy Mastic. Easy to apply and extremely tough. That said, none of these can work miracles so if the metal underneath is ruined/rusted through, you'll need to replace it

Have you got a link to any of that stuff? Is it a 2 part?
I have accumulated a full of of rear arms for my car which are brand new but I would like to give them a lick of something to protect them as they get a battering.
